Boeding, Box lead HTC in sweep of WB

FORT MADISON - Seniors Taylor Boeding and Emily Box combined for 28 kills as Holy Trinity swept visiting West Burlington Thursday night in Southeast Iowa Superconference action.

Boeding had one of her best nights on the court with 15 kills on 33 attacks. Boeding also had 10 digs patrolling the back side of the court for the Class 1A No. 3 Crusaders and went 9 of 9 serving with one ace. Box had 13 kills on 33 attacks and was 13 of 13 serving with one ace.

Holy Trinity improves to 26-2 on the season with its only losses coming over the weekend to Class 5A powerhouses Ankeny Centennial and Waukee in Urbandale.

Sophomore Bailey Hellweg has 19 assists and freshman Kassi Randolph had 17 to set up the attacks. Hellweg also was 19 of 19 serving with two aces. Senior Mya Lawlor was 14 of 15 with four aces on the night. Box had four blocks at the net.

Regional pairings were also announced on Monday night. Holy Trinity will get a bye in Class 1A Region 8 action. The top half of that bracket includes WACO, Burlington-Notre Dame, Moulten-Udell, Seymour, Moravia and Twin Cedars.

Holy Trinity will play the winner of the WACO-Burlington Notre Dame match up, which is Tuesday, Oct. 16, on Monday Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at HTC.

In the bottom half of the region, Southeast Warren has the bye, with Murray, Orient-Macksburg, East Union, Diagonal, Lamoni and Mormon Trail all opening play on the 16th.

Third round games are set for Thursday, Oct. 25th at 7 p.m. with locations to be determined and the regional final will be played on Tuesday Oct. 30th at Ottumwa's Evans Middle School at 6 p.m.

New London is playing in the Region 7 bracket this year, after being in Region 8 last year with the Lady Crusaders. There was concern last year about two of the top teams in the state being in the same region.

New London is in the bottom half of the bracket, which has 13 teams. New London will face Keota in the second round as both teams have a bye, other teams in that half of the bracket include Winfield-Mt. Union, Sigourney, Iowa Mennonite and Tri-County. The top half includes Montezuma, North Mahaska, BGM, Lynnville-Sully, Melcher-Dallas, Ankeny Christian, and Grand View Christian.

The Lady Crusaders travel to Cardinal for a freshman, junior varsity, varsity matchup on Thursday.
