CENTERVILLE – FMHS freshman Katelyn Dennis captured third place overall at the Centerville Big Red Redette Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday, leading the Bloodhounds to a 3rd place team finish as well.
Dennis was less that a minute off the pace with a time of 21:29 on the 5K course and scored second, as front-runner J’Lyn Knutson, of Melcher-Dallas was on an incomplete team. The sophomore won the event with a time of 20:30.
Junior Anna Kester captured 12th place overall and scored 10th with a time of 22:26. Team scoring is figured by adding the place finishes for the top five runners at each school.
Other scoring runners from Fort Madison included Maddy McVey at 23:11 good for 16th. Ashlynn Haas finished at 24:11 for 29th place and Claire Hellman finished at 65th with a time of 26:54.
In the boys run, the Bloodhounds finished in fifth place as a team. Senior Dayne Cordray took 10th place with a time of 18:08 followed by sophomore Anthony Barnes at 19:09 in 24th place.
Other scoring runners for the Fort Madison included freshman Will Gager at 19:26 (36th), senior Miguel Trejo at 19:38 (41st) and sophomore Owen Kruse at 20:07 good for 49th place.
Other Hounds finishing the 5K included freshman Austin Miller 20:23, sophomore Alex Steffensmeier at 2121 and freshman Matt Hopper at 23:55.
The Fort Madison Middle School girls won the middle school run with just 42 points.
Kay Quitten, Madison Huebner and Paetyn Wiegand finished 5th-7th separated by just two seconds 10:52-10:54 in some strong pack running in the 1.5 mile run. Emily Steffensmeier finished 10th at 11:06 and Tauren Settles rounded out the scoring runners with a 14th place finish at 11:11.
The Fort Madison Middle School boys also claimed at first with a total of 68 points.
Emmett Kruse’s 9:38 led a pack of Hounds that finished 10-12th including Carson Rashid 9:39 and Tate Settles 9:42. Leif Boeding and Ben Thele took 17th and 18th to round out the scoring runners for FMMS. Boeding finished at 10:08 and Thele at 10:10.
