Donald R. Robertson, 82 of Keokuk, IA died Sunday, October 21, 2018 at River Hills Village in Keokuk.

He was born January 1, 1936 in Keokuk, the son of Ernest and Martha (Sale) Robertson. On September 4, 1955 he was united in marriage to Doris Reid at the First Presbyterian Church in Keokuk. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, Daniel (Amy) Robertson of Keokuk, one daughter Diana Robertson (Susan Butterfield) of Lawrence, KS, one son-in-law, Steve Johnson of Hamilton, IL two grandsons, Jeremy (Darlene) of Alexandria, VA and Nathan (Jamie) of Cedar Rapids, IA and three great-grandchildren, Kayla, Brady and Blake.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Deborah Johnson.

Don graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1954. He then attended Southeastern Community College in Keokuk.

He worked in maintenance for Hubingers/Roquette for forty years, with certifications in carpenter millwright and pipefitter.

He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard for twenty-one years, until his retirement in 1975 with the rank of SFC E-7.

Don served several years on the volunteer police department in Keokuk. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, where he was an Elder and served on various standing committees. He was a fifty-year member and long-term officer of the Elks Lodge BPOE106, serving twice as Exalted Ruler. He was a 32nd degree Mason and recognized for fifty year membership at Keokuk Lodge No. 29. He was also a long time member of the Board of Directors for Hub Co and Lee County credit unions. He was on the board of directors for the labor union now known as BCTGM Local 48G. He was a member of the American Legion Post 41, the Keokuk Lion’s Club and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Don enjoyed bowling leagues for over sixty years. He was an avid golfer and twice scored a hole-in-one at the Elks Golf Course in Keokuk. He loved time spent with his family. He had a fun loving spirit and his humor often entertained those around him. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals fan. Don enjoyed the friendships and comradery of his golfing and bowling buddies.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk with Reverend Milo Veldhuizen officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

Visitation will be held after 3 p.m., Thursday, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. An Elks memorial service will follow immediately at 7 p.m.
