Daniel Monroe “Dan” Duncan, 75 of Montrose, IA died Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at his home.

He was born on December 4, 1942 in Quincy, IL the son of Donald Edward and Gloria Margaret Reinhart Duncan. On November 23, 1964 he was united in marriage to Sharon Jeanette Wrieden in Wayland, MO. She survives.

Other survivors include, one daughter, Frances Antwi and husband Ransford of Montrose, IA, three sons, Daniel Duncan and wife Kymm of Manitowoc, WI, Joe Duncan and wife Laurie of LaCrosse, WI and David Duncan of Montrose, IA. He was blessed with fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Michael Duncan and a granddaughter Amy Nichole Cooper.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country from 1961 to 1964.

He was an Iowa resident for 40 years. He previously lived in Milwaukee, WI for fourteen years where he had been employed as a roofing contractor and helped build severalskyscrapers. He later opened his own business with his brother-in-law Thomas Rossi.

Dan enjoyed watching Jeopardy and reading books. He also enjoyed roofing, siding, crossword puzzles, teaching his kids and grandchildren to garden, roof, work, ethics and teaching his kids and grandkids our lessons in life. A loving father, Dan believed in family. He was always the first to teach anyone who was willing to learn. We will always remember him teaching his brothers-in-law how to do roofing and siding jobs. Dan was all about history and lessons in life. He would be the first to give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He enjoyed all of his grandkids and loved to give them rides on his riding lawn mower, teaching them to care for gardens and helping them with their school work. Dan had a very special bond with each and every one of his grandchildren he raised James and Amanda just like they were his own He was always there to provide a loving home for his family. Dan was one of a kind man and there will never be another man like him. God received the perfect man to teach the children in heaven.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, at the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, IA with Chaplin Les Featheringgill.

Visitation will be after 1p.m., Thursday, at the Vigen Memorial Home on Keokuk, IA with family meeting with friends from 6-8 p.m.
