Wallace “Wally” Eugene Galbreath, 91, of East Point, GA, formerly of Keokuk, IA died peacefully at his home on October 16, 2018.

Wally was born November 28, 1926 in Keokuk, Iowa to Obie and Adah (Roach) Galbreath. Wally spent his childhood in Keokuk before being

drafted into the military, where he served in the US Army’s Red Ball Express Transportation Unit during World War II.

Wally returned to Keokuk after the war and welcomed a daughter, Jacqueline. He soon moved to Evanston, Illinois where he met and fell in love with Rosary Bacon. They were married June 26, 1952. In 1958, they welcomed a son, Keith, and two years later, a daughter, Nona. Wally worked as a mechanic and was Past Commander for VFW Post 7186 in Evanston.

Aside from fixing cars, Wally enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs.

After retiring, he moved back to Keokuk with his wife, who soon after preceded him in death. Wally kept up with his hobbies and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. In 2014, he moved to Atlanta, where he remained until his passing.

Wallace is survived by his sister, Lillian Clark, his daughter, Jacqueline (Joe) Scott, and son, Keith (Tina) Galbreath, all of Keokuk; daughter, Nona (Arthur) Galbreath Allen, of Atlanta, Georgia, granddaughters, Amber Garza, of Atlanta, and Angelina (Robert) Tomow, of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; grandsons Jay (Sarah) Scott, Travis (Brianne) Scott, and Jarod Galbreath, all of Keokuk, and Randall Galbreath, of Chicago, Illinois; as well as former daughter-in-law, Karen Hudson-Galbreath and her son, Aaron Dunlop, both of Chicago.

In addition to his wife, Rosary, Wallace was preceded in death by his sister, Dorryce Houston, and brother, Paul Galbreath.

Memorial services for Wally will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, October 30 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Sylvia Tillman officiating. Burial with military rites will take place immediately afterwards at Keokuk National Cemetery
