W. Joe Reynolds, 83, of Nauvoo, IL, passed away at 4:15 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2018 at his home.
He was born on December 13, 1934 in LaClede, IL the son of Frank and Helen Campbell Reynolds. On December 22, 1958 he married Beverly Baxter in Oquawka, IL.
Joe graduated from Central High School in Chebanse, IL, in 1952 where he starred in football, basketball, and track.

He graduated from Western Illinois University in 1956 with a B.S. Degree in Education. He played Center on WIU’s basketball team. In 2005 he was inducted into the Western Illinois University Athletic Hall of Fame. All members of the men’s basketball team were measured against the University’s standards of excellence for athletic achievement, professional accomplishments, character, conduct, and outstanding contributions to the WIU Athletics.
He did work towards his Master’s Degree at the University of Colorado, Boulder, CO.
Joe played for the Monmouth Eagles, champions of YMCA class A basketball league for the 1958-1959 season.
Mr. Reynolds taught high school at the G&O High School, Gladstone, IL, and Union High School, Biggsville, IL, for 32 years. He was basketball, football and track coach and Athletic Director at those schools. He had outstanding teams who won many Valley Conference Tournaments.
Joe was a member of the Quail Forever, Keokuk, IA. He loved being outdoors and fishing with his many friends in Wisconsin, Canada, Iowa, Illinois, Florida and Missouri. Another hobby was hunting pheasant, quail, deer, turkey, rabbit and squirrel. He and Bev loved to travel to Florida, LasVegas, and throughout the north, south and west. He always had an English Setter who he would take hunting, and recently spent everyday with Duke, his beloved Setter. Joe was an official member of the daily 5:00 a.m. Coffee Gang at Grandpa John’s Café.
Survivors include his wife and one niece, Joyce (John) Spicer of Green Cove Springs, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Reynolds.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Schmitz-Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Nauvoo with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00a.m. until time of service. A memorial fund has been established for the Quail Forever, Nauvoo Fire & Rescue or Lee County Hospice.
