Thelma L. Kirkenslager, 86, of Dallas City, IL, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison, IA.

She was born August 30, 1932 in La Harpe, IL, the daughter of Arthur and Grace Pence Wibbell. On September 30, 1950 Thelma married Kenneth E. Kirkenslager in Dallas City. He preceded her in death on June 20, 2013.

Thelma was a 1950 graduate of the Dallas City High School. She assisted her husband in operating Kirk’s Department Store for over 20 years. Also, she operated Kirk’s Ceramics out of her home for over 20 years. Ms. Kirkenslager enjoyed watching mysteries on TV, reading, cooking and her cats.

Survivors include three children, Lesa (Larry) Reginnitter of West Liberty, IA, Steven Kirkenslager of Niota, IL and Lori (Robert Akers) Gilpin of Dallas City, two grandchildren, Sloan and Spencer Kirkenslager and one brother, John Wibbell of Dallas City.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Crane Cemetery, near Lomax, IL. A memorial fund has been established for local animal shelters.
