Highland too much for HTC boys

RIVERSIDE - The Highland Huskies baffled the Holy Trinity Catholic boys in the first half rushing out to a 44-7 lead after two periods enroute to a 65-35 win in Southeast Iowa Superconference boys basketball action Thursday night.

The Crusaders managed just one bucket by junior Quentin Schneider in the first period when the HTC fell behind 19-2 after the first quarter. The rout would continue in the second period where Highland outscored HTC 25-5.

Holy Trinity couldn't get much going in the second half either. Senior Brant Holtkamp led the Crusaders in scoring with 11 points., all coming in the second half with three-3-pointers and bucket. Schneider was also in double figures with 10 points. Junior Reed Fehseke started to find his range in the second half connecting on a couple long balls to finish with seven points. Junior Matt Hellige was held to just two points on the night from his post position.

Chandler Rung finished with three points and Blake Crabtree finished with two to round out the scoring for Holy Trinity.

Junior Zack Lasek led all scorers on the night with 19 points from the Huskies,.

In the junior varsity game, Jason Thurman led the Crusaders with 12 points in a 46-36 win. Tyler Snaadt had 10 points in in the win.

The Crusaders open home season play on Saturday against Mediapolis.
