Roger A. Ploeckelmann, 80, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 7:21 a.m. on Monday, December 3, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. He was born on July 6, 1938 in Milwaukee, WI to Fred & Esther Bauch Ploeckelmann. He graduated from Shawno High School in Shawno, WI in 1956. He signed up for the National Guard in the 32nd Division and was trained to be an MP at Fort Gordon, GA. He was called up for active duty at the beginning of the Vietnam War and was stationed at Fort Lewis, WA. Although he never went to Vietnam, he was

used to guard the planes with morphine for soldiers. He was a carpet layer and later retired from Scottdel Carpet Cushion Company as a salesman. He met Carole Elizabeth Azinger on July 7, 1960 and they were married on January 28, 1961 in Milwaukee, WI.

Roger is survived by: his wife: Carole of Fort Madison, IA; 1-daughter: Tami (Joe) Sanchez of Fort Madison, IA; 1-son: Bret Ploeckelmann of Kewaunee, WI; 3-grandchildren: Nicholas, Joshua & Shelby; 4-great granddaughters: Aniah, Arijannah, Zeriah & Aurora; 1-brother: Glenn Ploeckelmann of Lusk, FL & several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents, 3-brothers: Lloyd, Floyd & Kenneth & 3-sisters: Beatrice, Alice & Gladys.

The family will meet with friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018 with the funeral service to immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Keokuk, IA with Rev. Rodney Underwood officiating. Burial will follow at Sandusky Cemetery. A memorial has been established for First Lutheran Church or Sandusky Cemetery.
