Lady Hounds go double OT in loss

FORT MADISON - Senior Anna Kester led the Lady Hounds with 16 points as Fort Madison just missed getting their first win of the year Friday night in Southeast Conference girls high school basketball action.

The Hounds shot a chilly 12-31 from the free throw line, including just 2-of 9 in both overtimes as Mt. Pleasant slipped out of the HoundDome with a 55-54 win, sending Fort Madison to its 10th consecutive loss.

Braxtyn McGhghy came out hot in the first period starting the game with a 3-ball. Eleesha Estrada scored on a jumper before McGhghy hit another from long distance to give Fort Madison an 8-2 first quarter lead.

The Lady Hounds would stretch that lead to seven, 22-15 at the end of the first half.

Mount Pleasant would cut the lead to three at the end of the third period lead by Maddie Williamson's five points. The Panther defense held FMHS to just six points, four from sophomore Maddie Rashid, in the period.

Mt. Pleasant would take it's first lead of the game at 41-40 with just two minutes remaining, but Fort Madison would come back to tie it up sending it into extra sessions.

Rashid finished with 14 point for Fort Madison, while McGhghy, Bass and Sarah Bernhart each had six for the Lady Hounds. Estrada had four on the night and Nadia Boeding had a two points.

Fort Madison is off until Friday, Jan 4, when they take on Fairfield at home.

The junior varsity squad and freshman teams also both lost Friday. The junior varsity team fell 35-28, led by Alana Simpson and Coree James each with seven points. Simpson also led the freshman team with 12 in a 21-19 loss.
