No one hurt at IAAP after Friday explosion

PCC STAFF MIDDLETOWN - Officials with the Joint Munitions Command are on the scene at the Iowa Army Ammunition plant today after a morning explosion at the facility. According to a release from Justine Barati, a spokesperson for the Joint Munitions Command, the explosion took place at 9 a.m. Friday morning. The statement indicated no one was injured and there was not threat to the community surrounding the superfund site about four miles west of Burlington on old Hwy. 34. The explosion occurred during ammunition production operations. IAAP adheres to strict safety standards to ensure the safety of workers handling munitions. Because of these efforts, there were no injuries associated with this accident, Barati wrote on a release posted to the IAAP Facebook page. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
IAAP produces and delivers component assembly, and medium and large caliber ammunition items for the Department of Defense using modern production methods in support of worldwide operations.
