Helen Virginia Windsor, 99 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 10:29 am Friday, December 21, 2018 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison. She was born July 6, 1919 in Troy, Missouri, a daughter of Charles Henry and Martha Jane (Redman) Bates. On August 25, 1942 in Fort Madison, she married William Vernon “Bud” Windsor. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1994.

Mrs. Windsor lived in Fort Madison most of her life. She was a graduate of Madam C.J. Walker School of Beauty, and she owned and operated Windsor’s Beautyette. She also worked as a CNA for the Sacred Heart Hospital for 30 years. She was a member and past organist of the Second Baptist Church. Mrs. Windsor was a former Boy Scout Den Mother, she was past president of the Jefferson School PTA, Church of United Council, and Hospital Retirees, and treasurer of the National Hairdresser Association. She enjoyed croqueting, planting flowers, and traveling.

She is survived by her son, William Vernon Windsor III of Fort Madison, one grandson Bradley Arthur Vernon Walters and one son-in-law Bruce Walters both of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter Nancy Virginia Walters.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 am Thursday, December 27, 2018 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. Her funeral service will follow and begin at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Reverends Gary Cartmill and Wilbert Cole officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison.
