Harry was born on December 31, 1922, in West Point, the son of Edward H. and Irene (Strothman) Boeding. He grew up in the West Point area and entered the United States Navy in 1943 where he served in the south Pacific and was honorably discharged in May of 1946. Harry married the love of his life, Joan Steffensmeier on February 10, 1947 in St. Paul. Married for sixty-seven loving years, Joan and Harry built a life together that revolved around family, friends, church and community. She preceded him in death on December 16, 2014.
In 1948, Harry and Joan made the bold decision to start their own business and they owned and operated Harry’s Service Station in St. Paul for over fifty-five years. Harry worked tirelessly to operate the service station assisted by Joan and their children. He was quick to respond to emergencies and for many years worked six days a week serving the community. But he savored his Sundays devoted to having fun with his family and friends.
One of Harry’s greatest joys was nurturing his beautiful yard with Joan expanding the many flowers and shrubs year after year. He also enjoyed biking, boating, hunting and trap shooting. He was a member of St. James the Less Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #668 and the St. Paul Volunteer Fire Department for thirty years.
