FORT MADISON - Following Thursday's announcement that the Fort Madison Riverfront Business District will drop it's Main Street Iowa designation, district officials have set a meeting for Thursday to discuss the direction of the district.

Stephanie Knoch, chair of the district, issued a statement Friday that indicated the meeting would take place on Jan. 17th at the Connection Bank Community Room beginning at 8:30 a.m. with merchants, contributors, and potential board/committee members invited.

The letter can be read in it's entirety by clicking on the link below.

In the statement, Knoch writes that it wasn't an easy decision to separate from Main Street Iowa.

"After a lengthy conversation between Main Street Iowa Director Michael Wagler, and our local board, a decision needed to be made to either remain with Main Street Iowa and identify opportunities to comply with their requirements or jump ship and revert back to Riverfront Business District," Knoch wrote.

The business district holds the 501c3 status and Fort Madison Main Street was a d.b.a of Riverfront Business District.

Knoch said the move will bring with it a need to "rebrand" how the district looks and functions and the meeting will serve to help hash out some of those issues.

She said the group will be working with Fort Madison Partners staff to help guide the transition, but it will take volunteers to drive the district.

"If we want the district to be successful, we all need to do our part," Knoch said.
