Illner Greene work to be featured at SCC

John Bybee, the head of the Art Department at Southeastern Community College, has lined up another exciting artist for the school’s ongoing efforts to spotlight regional artistic talent. The art exhibit Raptors and Other Birds of Prey, the latest series by Lori Illner Greene, is set to open with a gallery talk on Jan. 28th at noon in the SCC Art Gallery in the college’s Welcome Center on the West Burlington campus.

The exhibit explores the nature of hunting birds depicting eagles, owls, hawks, and other hunting birds. These are works range in size up to 36×36 inches. The featured art is a mix of black and white pieces along with colored pastels done in Greene’s signature style within each media.

“Beyond just memorializing a bird, I am seeking to impart the subject with a reflection of their nature,” Illner Greene said. “A bent feather blowing in the wind…a figure tucked into a tree trunk with feathers skewed from turning around into place…preening. I want to show more than just a static subject, even though often many of my subjects are hidden in plain sight, holding still, and ever watchful.”

Lori Illner Greene was the July 2018 featured artist at Fort Madison Area Arts Association for a month long exhibit of a body of work that spanned more than 15years. Artwork included both abstract and figurative pieces depicting aspects of string theory concepts along with animal portraiture of dogs, rabbits, hummingbirds, and other animals.

The current exhibit will be on display beginning Monday, January 28 and will hang through February 15, 2019. Private gallery talks at the college with the artist or visits to her home studio can be arranged by contacting her via or Facebook Messenger @greeneacresart
