Margaret Elizabeth Holtkamp Schierbrock came into this life as a gift from God on September 27, 1925. The daughter of Cecilia Christina (Pieper) and Bernard Joseph “BJ” Holtkamp. After a good long life’s journey she left

us on January 11, 2019, to be in eternal presence of our Lord Almighty. She married Victor William Schierbrock on December 30, 1946, at St. John the Baptist Catholic church in Houghton Iowa. Widowed August 12, 1978.
She was an active member of St Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point, Iowa. She belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society, the American Legion Auxiliary Hotlz Geers Post 668 where she was a past president of the 1st District in Iowa as well as past president, treasurer, and secretary of the West Point unit, past president of Lee County American Red Cross, den Mother and advisor for Boy Scouts Pack and Troop 20 in West Point. She served on the executive board for Southeast Iowa Boy Scout Council. She served on the West Point Public Library Board of directors for forty-eight years, where she seen the library grow from its humble beginnings in the city park to the Poepsel building, and finally to its current new home. She was a member of Pilot Grove Bank Heritage Club, Lee County Passport Club, and the Ft. Madison Community Hospital Auxiliary. She served on the West Point Development Committee. She was a promoter for the Central Association of the Miraculous medal. She loved her community, her genealogy, and the stories of Iowa. She enjoyed playing Canasta with her card club.
She was well known in the Tri-States for her lemon pie, her mom’s homemade potato salad, and deviled eggs. Her recipes were the best.
She is survived by her four children: Karl (Mary Beth) Schierbrock of Moline Illinois, Ann Krogmeier of Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky, Marian (Joseph) Neuweg of West Point, Iowa and Michael (Amy) Schierbrock also of West Point; ten grandchildren: Barbara (Eric), Kara (Brian), Brian (Meghan), Jennifer, Katie (Eric), Erich (Laura), Heather (Jon), Hannah (Clint), Katherine and Sarah; eleven great grandchildren: Hannah, Carli, Brock, Garrett, Carter, George, Max, Wyatt, Georgia, and Emma Jo and one more on the way; one sister: Joan Nichting; special friend Kay Kent and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Linus and his wife Mary, Rite Reverend Karl Holtkamp and Robert E. Holtkamp; one sister Martha and her husband Carl Link; one brother-in-law: Sylvan Nichting; one nephew: Michael Holtkamp and one niece: Kathleen Stiles.
Friends may call after 12:00 noon, Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point, Iowa, where the family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. that evening. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point with Father Dennis Hoffman as celebrant.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in West Point.
In lieu of flowers a Memorial has been established in her memory.
