CEDAR RAPIDS - Seniors Elton Kruse and Dayne Cordray, and junior Diego Lozano all captured second place finishes for the Fort Madison Bloodhound wrestlers at Saturday's J-Hawk Invitational at Cedar Rapids Jefferson.

The Bloodhounds finished in sixth place in the invitational that featured a weather-shortened field of 10 teams. Originally, the tournament was slated for 16 teams, but the snow storm that blanketed the area on Friday night and Saturday reduced the field.

Kruse recorded four wins at 113 lbs including three by pin, and then won by forfeit in Round 3. Two of Kruse's pins were in less than a minute, but he then ran up against Dubuque Hempstead's Adler Kramer (21-6) in the first-place match. Kruse was able to run Kramer into the third round, but eventually was pinned with just :25 left in the match.

Kruse was trailing 6-3 at the time of the pin, after scoring a take down in the third period to close the gap to 6-3.

Dayne Cordray received two byes out of the gate in the 120 lb. bracket and then downed Alburnette's Blaine McGraw with a pin at the 1:13 mark of the first period. Cordray then ran up against Iowa City High's Garrett Bormann and took that match all the way to sudden victory where Bormann would get the win.

Neither player would put up a point until the third period. Bormann scored a take down with :54 left in the final period and then was called for stalling and Cordray was able to score a reversal to tie the match at 2 with just :15 left to force the sudden victory period. Gormann got another takedown with :41 seconds remaining the first OT period to get the win.

At 182 lbs. junior Diego Lozano also earned a second-place medal. Lozano received a bye in the first round and then scored pins over Carter Davis of Underwood and Garrett Long of Dubuque Hempstead. Lozano then found himself up against Indianola's Miles Berg in the first-place matchup.

Lozano had the lead with takedown half way through the first period. Berg would tie it up with a 2-point reversal just :14 seconds into the 2nd period and then got Lozano's shoulders to the mat 10 seconds later for the win.

Junior Danen Settles placed 4th in the tournament. Settles went 3-2 on the day and fell to Muscatine's Togeh Deseh by a 5-2 decision in the 3rd-place match. Deseh had a takedown and a near-fall early in the first period for a quick 4-0 lead, but Settles regrouped and escaped for 1-4 first quarter deficit. Deseh scored the only point in the second period with an escape, pushing the lead to 5-1. Deseh was then called for stalling twice in the third period and Settles was awarded a 1-point penalty for the final 5-2 decision.

Gavin Wiseman earned a fifth place finish at 126 lbs for the Hounds with going 1-4 on the day with a pin over Brandon Schmal of Dubuque Hempstead in Wiseman's fourth match of the day. Will Larson also earned a 5th place medal at 132 lbs. Larson went 3-2 for the tournament.
