Rita Naumann Ballinger, 90, of Niota, Illinois, passed away at 12:16 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy, Illinois.
BALLINGER
Born on July 29, 1928, in West Point, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Catherine (Strunk) Bohnenkamp. She married Bernard A. Naumann November 28, 1946, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Madison, Iowa,. He preceded her in death. Rita then married Floyd J. Ballinger, June 6, 1998, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo, Illinois. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include four daughters: Teresa (Donald) Owings of Carthage, Illinois, Patricia (David) Marshall of Dallas City, Illinois, Barbara (Robert) Kraft of Niota, Illinois and Maria (Michael) Menke of Niota, Illinois; five sons: James (Mary) Naumann of Barrington Hills, Illinois, John (Sanae) Naumann of Corallville, Iowa, Joseph (Sue Sanford) Naumann of Niota, Illinois, Bernard (Liz Torgerson) Naumann of Harrison, Arkansas and Jay Naumann of Highland Ranch, Colorado; thirty-five grandchildren; forty-six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Bernard and Floyd; one son: Jeffrey Naumann; two granddaughters: Erika Naumann and Julie Owings Burdette; two granddaughters in infancy; two great-grandsons in infancy; six brothers: George (May and Helen) Bohnenkamp, Vincent (Avis) Bohnenkamp, Paul (Yvonne) Bohnenkamp, Leo (Joann) Bohnenkamp, Theodore (Rose) Bohnenkamp and Robert Bohnenkamp; three sisters: Evelyn (Francis) Moehn, Genevieve (Leroy) Moore, Laverne (Charles) Kious; two brothers-in-law: Robert (Pearl) Naumann and William Naumann; one sister-in-law: Sybilla (Ike) Fedler and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rita’s Catholic faith was instrumental in the way she lived her life - always helping her church, family and friends and nursing her husband Ben through many illnesses. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren, attending all their sporting events, music and dance recitals and graduations. Rita was an avid camper, reader, baker and cook, card and Bingo player and a wizard at crossword puzzles.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Schmitz - Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Nauvoo, Illinois.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Thomas Szydlik as Celebrant.
Burial was in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Nauvoo.
Memorials have been established in her memory for Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School or the Immaculate Conception Church Parish Hall.
