CEDAR RAPIDS - Fort Madison's Jacob Mohrfeld has qualified as the third seed for Saturday's State Swim meet in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Mohrfeld broke a Burlington High School record with a :59.66 mark at Saturday's district qualifier at Linn-Mar High School. His mark at Linn-Mar was second best on the day just 1.31 seconds off the pace of Keokuk's Dylan Jones. According to the state seeding sheet sent out Saturday, Mohrfeld's time is just under 3 seconds off the pace of Forrest Frazier of Iowa City High, who has the top seed with a :56.75 mark.
The state meet begins at noon Saturday at the University of Iowa Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
Mohrfeld is a junior at Holy Trinity High School and participates in swimming through a shared program with BHS. He also qualified for the state meet in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:04.02, which seeds him 22nd. His time was fourth best of the qualifiers. The top 24 times in each event qualify for the state meet.
Blake Wyrick, of Central Lee, qualified as the 13th seed in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.75, which was the top time at the qualifier in Cedar Rapids Saturday. He is also seeded 21st in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of :48.50. That time was third best at the qualifier.
The BHS team of Kale Schuff, Mohrfeld, Wyrick, and HTC junior Wyatt Hellman qualified in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:40.38 placing them in 15th overall at the state meet.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Mohrfeld, Schuff, Hellman and Wyrick took 4th place at the Linn-Mar district which placed them as a 16th seed at Saturday's state meet.
The Grayhound swimmers took 5th place overall at the district qualifier with 193 points.
