Leroy Joseph Walljasper, 79, of rural West Point, passed away at 7:10 a.m. Sunday, February 3, 2019, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

Born on October 15, 1939, near St. Paul, Iowa, the son of Fred and Mildred (McGinnis) Walljasper. On September 13, 1958, he married Marilyn Anne Engler at St. John’s Catholic Church in Burlington, Iowa. She preceded him in death on January 21, 2017.
Survivors include his two sons: David Walljasper of Cincinnati, Ohio and Doug (Arlene) Walljasper of West Point, Iowa; three daughters: Rebecca Walljasper of West Point, Iowa, Lori (Mark) Meierotto of West Point, Iowa and Cyndi (Terry) Walljasper McWilliams of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren: Billy Walljasper, Holly McDow, Nicole Walljasper, Wendy Burrows, Chris Walljasper, Zachary Meierotto, Abigail Meierotto, Molly Finder, Brady McWilliams, Nathan McWilliams, Rachel McWilliams, Sonya Peck, Amber DeRosear and Melanie Meierotto; twenty-one great grandchildren; one brother: Keith Walljasper of West Point, Iowa; one sister: Ruth Vorwaldt of Fort Madison, Iowa and two sisters-in-law: Pat Walljasper and Jeannette Ojle; two brothers-in law: Jim Engler and Don Engler. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Marilyn and brother: Don Walljasper.

Leroy graduated from Denmark Academy. He was a farmer and owner/operator of Walljasper Construction and Walljasper Implement. He was a member of St. James the Less Catholic Church in St. Paul. He enjoyed photography, his dog “Snickers”, telling stories, visiting with farmers in his shop, family gatherings and spending time with his grandchildren.

Friends may call after 12:00 noon on Thursday, February 7, 2019, at Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point where the family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2019, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point with Father Bruce DeRammelaere as Celebrant.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in West Point.

A memorial has been established in his memory.
