Fire damages Keokuk City Hall Tuesday night

KEOKUK - According to Radio Keokuk, the Keokuk City Hall crews are on the scene assessing damage as a result of a fire that started in the back of the building at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

Keokuk Mayor Tom Richardson is on the scene. Preliminary information is that firefighters were able to contain the fire to the back portions of the building, but there is substantial smoke and water damage. Radio Keokuk personnel on the scene said the fire appeared to be extinguished at 8:15.

The entire first floor was determined to be a total loss, but computer servers were saved. The city staff has scheduled an 8 a.m. meeting Wednesday morning in the parking lot.
