Hounds fall to Burlington Monday

BURLINGTON - Fort Madison senior Logan Rashid put up 26 points in a losing effort Monday night as the Fort Madison boys basketball team fell to Burlington 67-61 Monday night.

Rashid was a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line in the win, but Fort Madison suffered through a final minute where the Grayhounds went on a 7-0 run to win the game.

Fort Madison trailed by as much as 11 in the first quarter, but battled back to knot the score at 28 with three minutes left in the first half. Burlington then went on a 10-4 run to close out the half and take a 38-32 lead into the locker room.

The Grayhounds hit a three pointer to open the scoring in the second half and went up 41-32, but Fort Madison would put together a 7-2 run of their own that spanned three minutes to cut the lead to four at 43-39.

The Grayhounds would then hold leads ranging from three to seven points until the final two minutes where the Bloodhounds cut the lead to 61-58 and then 61-60 with under a minute to play before the BHS shut the Hounds down until the buzzer.

Junior Jayden Fedler had 13 points on the night and freshman Dayton Davis scored 12 in the loss. Junior Parker Denning added four, while senior Brandon Keester hit a 3-ball in the third quarter for his only points. Freshman Miles Dear had two points and senior Jordyn Gerdes had one to round out the scoring.

The Hounds fall to 7-12 on the year. They're game tonight with Davis County has been cancelled due to weather and will not be rescheduled. The Hounds wrap up the regular season in Friday with a trip to Fairfield.

Fedler has slipped to second in the Southeast Conference in scoring with 14.63 points per game. Mt. Pleasant's Sam Beatty is tops currently at 14.65 points per outing. Rashid is third in scoring at 13.8 points per game. Rashid is second in the conference in assists with 58 and Davis is tops in the league in steals with 46. Davis and Rashid are also tops in the league in turnovers with 61 and 59 respectively.

Post season information for the Bloodhounds is scheduled to be released on Friday.
