Gloria Giberson, 76, of Hillsboro, Iowa, passed away at 8:09 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2019, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Born on September 25, 1942, in Ada, Minnesota the daughter of Richard John and Martha Helen (Rasmussen) Holtkamp. At two years of age, she moved to Van Buren County, Iowa and grew up on a farm there. She graduated in 1960 from Harmony High School. On November 6, 1960, she married Lance Hugh Giberson at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2017.
Survivors include one son: Richard Giberson of Waukesha, Wisconsin; one daughter: Shari (Don) Spilman of Ottumwa, Iowa; one grandson: Chase Spilman of Ottumwa, Iowa; one sister: Sharon Reno of Burlington, Iowa; one sister-in-law: Diane (Joseph) Beyers of Naples, Florida; two nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Lance and brother-in-law: Marc Reno.
Gloria worked as a waitress in Fairfield, Iowa, then at the Sylvania Electric Products factory in Burlington, Iowa. She also worked at the Fairfield Glove Factory and Riverside Plastics in Bonaparte, Iowa. Besides being a homemaker and helping her husband with farming she was also an Avon representative for a time. In 1984, she and Lance moved to Winfield, Iowa and started their own business called Country Maid Dairies. They were distributors for Swiss Valley Dairy products throughout southeastern Iowa. They operated their business until Lance’s retirement in 1997. She then worked for a time for Lensgraf’s and Sunrise Terrace in Winfield. She and Lance traveled to Arizona and Texas during retirement until settling in Mission, Texas during the winter months. In the summer they would come back to Iowa to be with family and go camping with friends.
Gloria was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Farmington. She was an avid reader. She enjoyed visiting with people, traveling, dining out and shopping. Gloria greatly enjoyed watching NASCAR races, basketball and football games. She also enjoyed keeping up with her soap operas. She liked cooking and was always trying out a new recipe. Her family and faith were very important to her.
Friends may call from 12:00 noon to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Farmington, Iowa.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 2019, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Farmington.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Farmington with Father Dennis Hoffman as celebrant.
Burial will be at Vale Cemetery, Bonaparte, Iowa.
