Steven J. Harmeyer, 49, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 11:09 AM on Monday, February 25, 2019 at his home.

 He was born on January 12, 1970 in Ft. Madison to Norbert and Donna Krogmeier Harmeyer.  On September 17, 2004 he married Rosalinda Martinez in Ft. Madison.  Steve worked in manufacturing for several years at Continental in Mt. Pleasant and also Gleasons.  He joined the Iowa Army National Guard on June 12, 1989 and retired with twenty years of service as a Sergeant in October of 2008.  He was deployed in support of Desert Storm from January 1991-July1991.  He was deployed to Iraq in support of Iraqi Freedom from October 2004 through January of 2006.  He volunteered to support the border wall mission in California from October 2006 through April 2007.  Steve was called up for numerous flood and snow duties within the state of Iowa as well as a two week deployment to Louisiana in support of Hurricane Gustav.

    Steve was a member of Holy Family Parish, NRA, Tri State Gun Club and the American Legion.  He loved spending time outdoors doing numerous activities including shooting his guns, four wheeling and coyote hunting.  He also enjoyed going to flea markets, gun shows and watching military and western movies.  One of Steve’s greatest loves was spending time with his friends and family while grilling and drinking beer.

   Survivors include his wife, Rosa Harmeyer of Ft. Madison; three daughters, Angel (Joe Lay) Martinez, Sonya Tijerina and Tonya Tijerina all of Ft. Madison; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; his siblings, Sue (Ron) Keller, Patricia (Rick) Pelham, Jon (Thuy) Harmeyer, Joan (Jerry) Cochrane, Katie (Eric Hanchrow) Drake, Lynn Sandoval, David Harmeyer, Dana Harmeyer; several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Donna Harmeyer and a brother in law, Ricardo Sandoval.

   Friends may call after 2 PM on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory where the family will meet with friends from 4-6 PM.  There will be a wake service held at 6 PM following visitation.  The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Joseph Phung officiating.  Burial with military rites performed by the Ft. Madison Veterans Honor Guard will be in Soldiers’ Circle, Oakland Cemetery.
