FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison Bloodhounds, who finished the conference wrestling season at 4-0 put three wrestlers on the 1st Team in the Southeast All-Conference list released Thursday.

Those wrestlers included Sam Hayes and Danen Settles, along with freshman Gavin Wiseman.

The Bloodhounds also put six wrestlers on the second team, including state qualifier Elton Kruse at 113 lbs, Owen Kruse at 106 lbs, Dayne Cordray at 120 lbs, Will Larson at 132 lbs, Nathan Steffensmeier at 138 lbs and Chance Hocker at 170 lbs.

Mt. Pleasant finished the conference season at 2-2, and placed seven wrestlers on the first team list. Fort Madison won the conference with a 4-0 mark.

Washington's Tristan Westphal (182 lbs) was named Wrestler of the Year.

Hayes, a senior wrestling at 195 lbs., was ranked in the top 10 in that division for most of the year, battling shoulder injuries including a torn labrum half-way through his senior year, that surfaced again in his second match at the state tournament two weeks ago in Des Moines.

Hayes didn't place at the tournament, but had both losses in-hand early in the match. A shoulder injury in his final match kept him from the podium on Saturday night.

Settles, a junior, took home 8th place at the state meet at 285 lbs. Settles made it to state as a sophomore after winning a thriller match in a wrestle back at districts.

Wiseman captured third place at the district meet at 126 lbs in Cedar Rapids a week before the state meet. Only the top two wrestlers in each weight class can advance to the state meet.

Cordray, Elton Kruse, Hayes, Steffenmeier, Dawson Hunt, Marlee Klesner, Olivia Koechle, Abby Kelley and Chloe Hoenig were all named Academic All-Conference for maintaining a 3.25 cumulative GPA.
