LEE COUNTY - Lee County Conservation is hosting four free public programs this week. The first one is “Spectacular Swans” and this will be held in conjunction with the Keokuk Public Library on Wednesday, March 20. The event will start at the Keokuk Library at 3:00 p.m. The event is kid-friendly and open to the public. Participates will learn all about the beautiful trumpeter swans during this hour-long program.

The second event is an evening prairie burn at Wilson Lake starting at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21. During this program, the public will learn more about fire as a habitat management tool and see how a control burn is conducted. Participants should plan to park in the campground and meet LCCB naturalists near the restrooms. The naturalists will lead the group out to view the burn. Event goers should watch the LCCB’s Facebook page as this event could be cancelled due to changing weather conditions.

The third program will be a woodcock walk starting at the Lee County Conservation Center at 6:45 p.m. on Friday, March 22. A LCCB Naturalist will teach event goers about these mysterious critters with a short presentation inside, then head to the prairie behind the conservation center to look and listen for birds. Attendees willing to sit or lay quietly in the grass are likely to have the best seats to the sky dance show. Participants are encouraged to bring a mat or pad to sit on out in the prairie

The final event is a director’s hike starting at 9:30 a.m. at Wilson Lake on Saturday, March 23. The hike will be led by the LCCB Director. The event will begin from the cabins on the west side of the park. During this hike, attendees will explore Wilson Lake and learn more about the park’s features. The hike will be relaxing, social, and most importantly fun!

All the programs this week are free and open to the public. For the events held at a park, attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather. For more information, contact the Lee County Conservation Center at 319-463-7673 or by checking out the LCCB’s Facebook page.
