Hound runners get two 2nds, three 3rds in Mt. Pleasant

MT. PLEASANT - HTC juniors Matt Hellige and Quentin Schneider led the Fort Madison boys, while Katie Dennis and Reyna Lampe paced the girls at Thursday nights Mt. Pleasant Co-Ed track meet at the Mapleleaf Stadium.

Hellige took second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:11.18, just 12 seconds off the pace of Ryan Threlkeld-Wiegand of Iowa City High. Schneider earned second place in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 59.61 a half a second behind Iowa City High's Soren Ostby.

The Lady Hounds freshman Dennis ran to a 3rd-place finish in the girls 3000-meter run with a time of 11:59.48. Lampe also earned a 3rd place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.29, a mere .05 off second place and .6 seconds from Cedar Rapids Jefferson's Meghan Prohaska's 16.47.

Dennis also earned points in the 1500-meter run with a 6th place finish at 5:39.82.

Sheymouhr Redd-Donald took third in the 200 meter dash with a 24.32 his best time of the year in that event. Hellige got the boys another 3rd place mark win the 1600-meter run with a 4:45.57, five seconds off the pace.

Raquel Schneider took 3rd the girls 400 hurdles with a 1:20.40 mark in what is becoming a family event for the Schneiders. Older sister Brett went to state in the 400 hurdles last year's event as did mom, Carrie.

In the relays, the boys 800 spring medley motored to a fifth place mark with Calem Maclearn, Redd-Donald, Brock Califf and Schneider finishing at 1:41.60, 2.5 seconds off the winning time.

For the Lady Hounds, the distance medley team of Aleaya Klesner, Julia Seel, Dennis and Schneider captured a 5th place finish at 5:00.64. The boys distance medley of Schneider, Garrett Hannum, Califf and Hellige also finished 5th with a 4:02.00 mark.
