Hound boys 4th, ladies 8th at Demon Relays

WASHINGTON - Fort Madison' Matt Hellige had two first-place finishes at Thursday's wet Demon Relays at Case Field in Washington.

With both Bloodhound boys and girls running against perennial track powerhouse in Mt. Pleasant and loaded Iowa City Liberty, top finishes were hard to come by.

Hellige took first place in the 1600-meter run just nipping Mt. Pleasant's Cody Mertens by .9 seconds at 4:46.07. The junior from HTC running on the Bloodhound squad then turned around and ran away with the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:17.95 a full 16 seconds ahead of the pack.

The shuttle hurdle relay team and freshman Katie Dennis each garnered the highest place winners for the girls. The relay team finished at 1:17.84 good enough for third. Dennis ran the 3000-meter run in 12:33.14, behind Liberty's Ashlyn Keeney's blistering 10:06.24 and Mt. Pleasant's long-distance standout Abby Ryon who finished at 11:13.65.

The Lady Hounds Raquel Schneider's 1:17.71 earned fourth in the 400 hurdles, while the 4x800 meter relay team also finished fourth with a time of 12:05.00.

For the boys other top five finishers, Quentin Schneider motored to a third place in the 400 hurdles with a time of 59.22 and finished fourth in the 100 meters with a 12.15 time. Sheymouhr Redd-Donald also earned a fourth place with a 24:90 in the 200. The 110 shuttle hurdle relays squad also took fourth place.

The boys 4x100 and Sprint Medley teams both earned 5th place finishes.

As a team the Bloodhound boys finished with 66 points behind Mt. Pleasant, Washington, and Iowa City Liberty. and Washington. The girls finished in eighth place with 41 points.
