FM boys stay unbeaten with win over Keokuk

FORT MADISON - Fort Madison won their fourth match without a loss to open the tennis season.

The Bloodhounds made quick work of Keokuk 7-2 at home Monday night taking five of six singles matches and two of three in doubles action.

At No. 1 singles Sam Avery downed the Chiefs' Abbott Haner 6-4 in the first set and then took a tough second set that went to a tiebreaker at six-all. Avery won the tie-breaker handily 7-2 to take the second set 7-6 and the match.

At No. 2 singles Jason Thurman beat Kaiden Stoneking 6-0, 6-1, while at No. 3 singles, Vasin Thurman beat Calum Tackes 6-1, 6-0. The Thurman brothers also won their No. 1 doubles match over Haner and Stoneking 6-1, 6-1.

At No. 4 singles, Reed Fehseke shut out Keokuk's Jared Evans 6-0, 6-0. Fehseke and Avery also won teamed up in doubles action over Tackes and Hannon 6-1, 6-0.

None of Fort Madison's top four players have lost either in singles or doubles action so far this year.

At No. 5 singles, the Hounds suffered their only singles defeat when Keokuk's Will James defeated Bryce Workman 6-3, 6-1. Levi Sissel jumped all over Keokuk's Tucker Hannon 6-0 in the first set, but then dropped a tough second set 5-7, before winning the tiebreaker in a first-to-10, 10-6 win.

Sissel and Workman would drop their doubles match 6-3, 6-1 to Evans and James to end the day.

The boys team is off until Tuesday, April 16 when they travel to Fairfield.
