Wendell Jacobsmeier, 80, of Ft. Madison passed away on Tuesday, April 09, 2019 at 1:35 AM at The Madison.

He was born on July 31, 1938 in Ft. Madison to William and Loretta Hellweg Jacobsmeier. Wendell was in sales with several local business, including Kempker’s. On January 13, 2001 he married Emily Cangas in Keokuk and she passed away on April 11, 2017. He served in the US Marines. Wendell was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed bowling, softball and was a Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He was a member of the Barber Shop Quartet where he won several awards.

Survivors include his children, Theresa Matlick of Parker, CO, Lisa Snodgrass of Quincy, IL, David (Stephanie) Jacobsmeier of Sedalia, MO, Todd Jacobsmeier of Portland, OR, Sean (Theresa) Jacobsmeier of Davenport, IA, Ryan (Karin) Swainey of Inver Grove Hieghts, MN and Sean (Raegan) Swainey of Keokuk, IA; fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren; siblings, Luanne (Jim) Pruett, Laura Hyatt and Lillian (Stanley) Helling all of Ft. Madison, Lorene (Ron) Ellerhoff of Middletown and Martin (Donna) Jacobsmeier of Burlington and a special friend, Kay Ette of Sugarland, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother, Justin.

   The family will meet with friends from 10 AM until 11 AM on Friday, April 12, 2019 at Sacred Heart Church.  The funeral mass will follow at 11 AM at the church with Rev. Joseph Phung officiating.  Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery with military rites performed by the Ft. Madison Veterans Honor Guard.
