HTC girls cut Wapello match short by 10 goals

FORT MADISON - The Holy Trinity girls stayed unbeaten on the year with a 11-1 win over visiting Wapello to highlight girls soccer action Thursday night.

Sophomore Claire Pothitakis scored her eight goal of the year in the romp. Junior Elle Rashid had the hat trick this time for the Crusaders.

Senior Taylor Boeding got the scoring started for HTC with a goal at 33:48 mark, before Rashid put two biscuits in the basket before three more minutes had ticked off the clock to give the Crusaders a 3-0 lead 10 minutes into the match. Boeding also led HTC in assists with four.

Taylor Crabtree would fool the goalkeeper four minutes later for her first score of the year to make it 4-0.

The Arrows kept HTC out of the box for the next 13 minutes before the Pothitakis girls put the contest out of reach. Claire would score two of the next three sandwiched around an Elyse Pothitakis goal with 13:05 left. Claire Pothitakis converted again at the 12:40 mark to make it 7-0 before halftime.

Samantha Pothitakis would score two goals in the 2nd half including a goal at the 23:05 mark to set the 10-goal rule.

Rashid would score her third in the second and Lulu Zhang got her first goal of the year in the period.

Sam Pothitakis had a save in the first 40 minutes as keeper before giving way to Mya Lawlor who gave up a goal but snared two saves before the game was called.

The Crusaders move to 3-0 on the season and host Notre Dame at South Park in a tripleheader on Monday night.
