John W. Pollpeter, 87, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 4:39 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Fort Madison. He was born on September 24, 1931 in Fort Madison, IA to Walter & Zelda Gehle Pollpeter. He married Delores S. Rashid on December 20, 1951 in Fort Madison, IA. She preceded him in death on January 4, 2018. He owned & operated Tri State Furniture & Appliance in Fort Madison with his wife for many years. He was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran and was an excellent woodworker. He enjoyed boating on the Mississippi, hunting & all outdoor activities.

John is survived by: 3-sons: Tom (Pat) Pollpeter of Donnellson, IA, Jerry (Mary) Pollpeter of North Liberty, IA & Walt Pollpeter, family Rich Sullivan, Jeff Lindstrom & his extended Houston, TX family; 2-daughters: Cindy (Kevin) Bates of Fort Madison, IA & Patty (Ray Cangas) Knustrom of Fort Madison, IA; 12-grandchildren; 13-great grandchildren & 1-sister: Rita Poulter of Dallas City, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents & his wife.

       Per John’s wishes, a private family service will be held and burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery with military rites performed by the Fort Madison Veterans Honor Guard.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Lee County Hospice.  Memorials may be sent to Tom Pollpeter, 2516 Highway 2, Donnellson, IA 52625.  Online condolences to John’s family may be left at the King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory website: www.kinglynk.com.  King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with the arrangements.
