Constance Jean Holtkamp Hughes, 63, of Fort Madison, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly at 7:02 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2019, surrounded by friends and family. She was born on January 16, 1956 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Agnes Zumdome Holtkamp.

She was a graduate of Aquinas High School in Fort Madison and a graduate of St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa where she majored in Criminal Justice and Accounting. She married Don Hughes, they later divorced.

Connie was survived by her two sisters, Joyce (Jack) Kirchner of Donnellson, Iowa and Janet (Edward) McKenney of Carthage, Illinois and two brothers, twin brother Ronald (Debra) Holtkamp of Montrose, Iowa and Alvin (Melody) Holtkamp of Fort Madison, Iowa. She was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Agnes Zumdome Holtkamp, a brother, Ralph Holtkamp, two sister-in-laws, Miriam Menke Holtkamp and Chris Kempker Holtkamp.

Connie loved spending time with her best friends, Donna Fraise Welter, Becky Zumdome Rung, Karen Brockway Webster, Cassie Vonachen Schmidt, Candie Culbertson Brickner, and Robin Freesmeier Kokjohn. She also spent most of her time with her niece, Mikaela McKenney, and nephew, Holt McKenney. She loved her Maltese, Butters, very much.

Connie enjoyed planting flowers, as she worked for Peters Greenhouse out of Lomax, Illinois and was in charge of the Hamilton, Illinois location. She also enjoyed technology and working on computers. She was an avid reader and loved history. Connie took care of her mother for many years up until her death in 2012. She took great pride in taking care of the most important person in her life. Anyone who knew Connie, knew that she did not know a stranger. She could carry on a conversation with anyone without judgement. This world will miss her spark.

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 with the family to receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. and a wake service to be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening all at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev.
