FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison Bloodhounds and Holy Trinity Crusaders boys soccer teams both advanced in district soccer action Monday night.

Fort Madison rolled to a 3-0 win over host Iowa City Liberty and will travel to Cedar Rapids Xavier tonight for Class 2A district finals.

The Saints are 12-2 on the season and have given up just nine goals on the year. There two losses have come at the hands of Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Cedar Falls, both 3A schools.

Brody Rung and Reuben Eid hooked up at the 27 minute mark of the first half and Eid sent a ball into the back of the net for 1-0 lead and the only first half scoring.

Austin Sexton, who's 11th in the state in Class 2A scoring with 18 goals, then scored unassisted with 14 minutes gone in the second half.

Will Gager put the final touch on the game when he got loose near the box and fired one in at the 30-minute mark.

Javier Trejo pitched the shutout with seven saves as the Hounds moved two games over .500 at 10-8 on the year guaranteeing a winning season. They went 5-3 in conference play.

Holy Trinity had a tougher road getting to tonight's match up with West Liberty at Burlington Notre Dame. The Crusaders outscored Mediapolis 3-2 in the first half, with neither team scoring in the second half.

Ryder Brune got the scoring going early with a goal with just under four minutes gone in the opening period, but Mediapolis would score back-to-back goals within a minute of each other at 9:50 and 8:42, the second coming when HTC keeper Blake Crabtree got pulled to the right side of the box and the Bulldogs found a striker in the center for an empty net goal.

But the Crusaders would take to the offensive with some passion after surrendering the go-ahead goal, and senior Adam Rauenbuehler found a loose ball after a push through the box by HTC, about two feet out and scooted it in to tie up the game at 2 with 6:40 left in the first half.

Senior Audrae Vincent, who's sixth in goals in Class 1A with 26, fired one in from about 12 feet out just right of center net in what proved to be the winning goal.

Crabtree had nine saves in the match including a jumping two-handed snare in a crowd on a blistering shot to the top right side of the net in the first half to preserve the Crusader lead.

Rauenbuehler had two assists on the night and freshman Mitchell Pothitakis had an assist as well.

West Liberty is 9-7 on the year and the Crusaders come into the contest at 12-7 on the campaign. West Liberty knocked off Columbus 2-0 to advance in the district action
