Locals get Lee County Dems scholarships

Posted

FORT MADISON - The Lee County Democrats have awarded two Scholarships this year to local graduates. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage graduates to continue on to higher education and to encourage them to get involved in the local community as well as take an interest in national issues that will affect them.

The applicants had to write a 500-word essay on one of three government questions; have a good GPA; and be involved in the school and County activities. A committee from the Lee County Democrats evaluated the essay and applications

The two winners selected were Sam Avery from Holy Trinity High School and Riana Mulligan from Central Lee High School. Both will receive a scholarship in the amount $500.00.
