NEW LONDON – The Holy Trinity girls softball team started the season with a 16-2 win over New London in just five innings Monday night.
Mary Hellige got the win for the Crusaders going three innings and striking out seven. She only allowed one run in the outing. Haile Cain and Rachel Menke each pitched an inning in relief combining for four strikeouts and one run.
Kayla Box led the Crusaders at the plate with three hits, 3 RBI and two runs scored. Hellige had two hits, including a double and three runs scored.
Cain also had two hits and scored two runs and Laura Mehmert had a couple singles for HTC.
The Crusaders are 1-0 on the year and scheduled to play at Danville tonight and at home against Mediapolis on Friday.
