ISP hands out $10K in scholarships

FORT MADISON - Iowa State Penitentiary hosts various fundraisers to raise money for its scholarship fund. $10,000 was awarded this year to students attending college in the fall.

Children of ISP employees are eligible to apply for one of ten $1,000.00 awards. The students must be attending college in the fall and can reapply every year. Community members are asked to choose scholarship recipients based on merit.

One of the scholarships is awarded in the memory of former Correctional Officer Scott Bryant who was killed in the line of duty while participating in the Special Olympics Torch Run. Bryant’s family is involved in choosing the award recipient each year.

This year’s recipients include:
Corrine Keenan, daughter of John Hawk
Baylee Clampitt, daughter of Cris and Krissy Altgilbers
Justin Bowker, son of Rebecca Bowker
Iliyah Moore, daughter of Ronnie Stewart
Sheridan Lafeber, daughter of Brenda Farr
Nathan Wallace, son of Jeff Wallace
Jacob Wallace, son of Jeff Wallace
Cassie Powers, daughter of Joe Powers
Leigh Johnson, daughter of Jill Johnson

The recipient of the Scott Bryant scholarship was Kailee Pfeiferling, daughter of Leigh Ann Pfeiferling.
