WEST POINT – The Holy Trinity girls junior high and junior varsity girls softball teams won three and lost two last week in local softball action.
On Friday, the junior high girls shut out Cardinal of Eldon 9-0 to move to 4-1 on the year.
Mary Hellige was the winning pitcher fanning eight in six innings of work. Jenna DiPrima had three hits and scored a run to lead the Crusaders’ offense. Kayla Box, Brooke Mueller, and Halie Cain each had to hits with Mueller scoring twice. Paige Wasielewski and Laura Mehmert both had hits with Mehmert scoring a couple runs in the win.
The girls swept Winfield Mt. Union on Thursday night and then got swept in rain-shortened action against West Burlington Wednesday night.
In the Thursday wins, the junior high girls won 15-7 over the Winfield with Rachel Menke going four innings striking out seven while allowing just three unearned runs.
Mueller had two hits to lead the Lady Crusaders at the plate and scored a run. Wasielewski had a single, a walk, swiped two bases and scored two runs. Box, Hellige, Mehmert, DiPrima, Menke, Teagan Snaadt and Jenna Hellman all had hits for HTC.
In the junior varsity contest, Hellige went six innings striking out five for the 6-1 win. She also had a single and a run scored.
Cain, Anna Sobczak, Mueller, Kelli Meierotto and Hannah Torgler all had singles in the win. Mueller had the lone RBI.
On Wednesday, the HTC junior high squad lost 12-0 in three innings to West Burlington/ND. Cain, Menke and Snaadt did the pitching. Breanna Peterson and Mehmert led the way at the plate each reaching base once. The junior high team is now 2-1 on the season.
The junior varsity lost 9-3 in six innings to the Lady Falcons. Hellige again did the pitching striking out three batters in five innings of work. Cain led the way at the plate going 3 for 4 with a double, two singles, two runs scored and a stolen base. Sobczak, PWasielewski, Mueller and Meierotto all had a single, and Mehmert reached twice by walk and scored a run.
