Melvin Gene Holman, 70 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died peacefully Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa. He was born March 6, 1949 at Fort Madison, a son of Ramona Juanita Holman. He married Valerie Adkins, and they had two sons, Shawn and Jason. They later divorced.

He was drafted into the US Army at age 17, and served in the Vietnam War.  He loved fishing and was a commercial fisherman.  He followed sports and was a CUBS fan.  He liked mushroom hunting and reading.

He is survived by two sons, Shawn Holman of Norwalk, Iowa and Jason Holman of Carman, Illinois; three sisters: Alice Rebecca Holman of Fort Madison, Linda Rudd of Fort Madison, and Roseann Salerno of Springfield, Illinois; one brother, Harold Junior Hinchey of Springfield, Illinois; three grandchildren: Danica Maree Holman, Jayden Mikel Blake, and Brandon Scott Annegers; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother.
