Karen Parrack, 75 of Keokuk passed away Sunday June 23 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. She was surrounded by her family and passed peacefully after battling multiple illnesses in recent years.

She was born Karen Kay Dunlap, daughter of Fred and Annabelle Dunlap, both of whom preceded her in death.

Karen was born in Keokuk and attended Keokuk High School.

She worked as a dental hygienist in Burlington, Iowa before marrying Arthur Parrack. Karen and Art lived in Kansas City, Seattle, Jacksonville, Florida, and Aurora, Nebraska. They divorced in 1990 and Karen moved back home to Keokuk shortly thereafter to be with her family.

Karen was a people person and could light up anyone’s spirits with just her laugh and smile. She was the director of the former Dayton School of Cosmetology and also had her own salon before retiring in 2008.

Karen is survived by her son, Clay Parrack of Keokuk, daughter, Angela Alexander of Houston Texas, son, Sterling Parrack of St. Louis Missouri, brother, Bob Dunlap of rural Clark County Missouri, sister, Debbie Kisor of Keokuk, sister, Diana Carr of Keokuk, sister, Nancy Welsh of Keokuk, brother, Doug Dunlap of Keokuk, and brother, Dave Dunlap of Keokuk. She is also survived by seven grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Derek Olsen officiating.

Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10-11 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home with family meeting with friends at that time.
