FORT MADISON - A couple of back-to-back errors to start the sixth inning triggered a six run, third inning that the Fort Madison Lady Bloodhounds couldn't recover from Tuesday night.

The Hounds fell to Davenport West on Senior Night 11-2 with freshman Katie Dennis taking the loss in the circle.

The Bloodhounds trailed just 2-1 after two innings, but a lead-off grounder to shortstop was mishandled by senior Olivia Williams putting Rylee Rommel on first. Rommel moved over when Emma Lee put down a bunt that slipped past a charging infield and then Kaylie Caldwell singled to load the bases.

Senior Erica Ralfs then ripped a double down the third baseline that got under Logan Johnson's glove for a hit scoring two runs. Abby Smith followed with a third straight hit to plate another run with no outs.

Kaitlyn Powell then laid down another bunt and Ralfs came rushing to the plate, but Dennis' throw home was wide and went to the fence keeping everyone safe with West gaining a 7-1 lead. Kaylynn Sparks would ground out to short for the first out, but the hit scored Smith from third.

MacKenzie Harland would single to right scoring Powell and then Dennis would get two of the next three hitters to line up to stop the bleeding at 8-1.

With one out in the bottom half of the third, senior Cassie Powers would draw a walk and Ivy Geerdes would follow suit. Logan Johnson then popped to shallow left-center and the ball was dropped by Sparks. Sparks made a quick throw to 3rd as Powers was forced and was called out on a tight play at the bag.

Head Coach Jarod Rehm had a very brief conversation with the umpire and play resumed. Dennis then grounded out to second on an 0-2 pitch to end the threat.

Powers would come into take over for Dennis in the fourth inning. Powers would get the first out and then surrender a run to West when Ralfs reached on a single, stole second and came around to score on a single by Smith. Powers would get Sparks and Harland out to retire the side.

Fort Madison would put up a run in the sixth when Kylee Cashman singled, moved to third when Vanessa Golowach singled. Williams would fly out to deep left field scoring Cashman. The next two Bloodhounds would fly out to end the inning.

Davenport West would get two more insurance runs in the top of seventh and Fort Madison couldn't get anything going in the bottom to end the game.

Williams led the Lady Hounds going 2 for 3 on the day with an RBI and a run scored. Golowach was 2 for 2. Dennis gave up eight runs, three earned in the loss and scattered eight hits. Powers gave up three runs, one earned in four innings of work.

The Hounds honored Williams, Powers, Golowach, and Jassmine Bass prior to the game as the team's only seniors.

Fort Madison falls to 14-17 and begin regional play on Thursday with a 7 p.m. game against the Burlington Grayhounds in Burlington
