Ms. Esther Ann Newberry, 83, of Dallas City, IL passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 at her home.
She was born July 31, 1935 in Williamstown, MO, the daughter of J.C. and Helen Doren Newberry.

NEWBERRY

Esther worked for the Dallas City Elementary School for 11 years and later volunteered there by reading with the students. She also worked at Methode in Carthage, IL for 9 years, retiring in 1996. From 1975 - 1982 she was foreman of a corn detasseling crew.
For almost 20 years she volunteered at the Fort Madison Rodeo at “Bob’s Barn” doing laundry. She enjoyed playing guitar and played at area nursing homes. She served on the Dallas City city council for 20 years where she was currently the Water Commissioner. Esther was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas
Surviving are four children, Caren Ann Cox of LaHarpe, IL, Carla Ann Pence of Lomax, IL, Cevin Roy Cox of Danville, IA and Colette Louise Cox of Denmark, IA, 11 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, one sister, Mary Lou Schaffer of Quincy, IL and one brother, Jim (Sandy) Newberry of West Burlington, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Travis Heckenberg and one sister, Doris Hiller.
Services will be held at 10:00am Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Father Tony Trosley officiating. Burial will follow in the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. The family will meet with friends Friday, July 19th from 5:00 until 7:00pm at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for PAWS Animal Shelter or the Dallas City Food Pantry.
