PELLA - Saturday night against Pella High School, Fort Madison baseball wrapped up regular season play with a 3-1 win, finishing with a record over the .500 mark for the first time in over a decade.

The Bloodhounds started the game by getting lead-off hitter Reed Fehseke on when he was hit by a pitch. Back-to-back outs followed, but a double from Brandon Reichelt brought in Fehseke to draw first blood and give Fort Madison the 1-0 lead.

It took until the home-half of the fifth inning for Pella to respond. After Dayne Cordray started the inning with a strikeout, three-straight singles tied the game at 1-1.

Fort Madison put the game away in the sixth.

Jason Thurman started things off with a walk. Reichelt then doubled, putting runners at second and third with one out. Jason Thurman was able to score on a wild pitch, before Vasin Thurman drew a walk to put runners on the corners.

Colten Engeman, who came on to courtesy run for Reichelt, was able to score on a wild pitch during Cordray's at bat, giving the Bloodhounds the 3-1 advantage in the top of the sixth inning.

Cordray navigated his way through the next two innings, leading his team to the 3-1 victory.

Reichelt led the way with an RBI on a 2-for-3 day at the dish. Cordray went all seven innings on 102 pitches, allowing eight hits and just one earned run. Cordray collected four strikeouts and walked one.

With the win, Fort Madison finished regular-season play with a 16-14 record.

The Bloodhounds open district action Friday night at Fairfield in Substate 5, District 10 bracket. Game time is 7 p.m.
