Carroll “Tootie” Cunningham, Jr. 67 of Alexandria, MO died Saturday, July 20, 2019 at his home.  

He was born November 9, 1951 in Keokuk, IA the son of Carroll E. and Janet Hornung Cunningham.

Tootie graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1970.

He had been employed by Sheller Globe, Stone Container and later for the Keokuk Community School District, until his retirement in 2013.

Tootie loved people and always had a story to tell. These stories were known to his family as “the Tootie stories”. He had a great passion for music and had an impressive collection of vinyl albums. He was a loving father and his life revolved around his children.

He is survived by Christina Smeltser of Alexandria, MO, one son, Chris Cunningham of Brooklyn, N.Y., four daughters, Janine Cunningham of Brooklyn, N.Y., Caitlyn Cunningham of San Francisco, CA, Rikilynn and Josi Bryant both of Keokuk, two brothers, Craig Cunningham (Ginger) of Warsaw, IL and Curtis Cunningham (Diane) of Montrose, IA, two nephews, Corby Cunningham of Quincy, IL and Cody Cunningham of Chicago, IL, three nieces, Cortney (Jamie) Tallman of St. Louis, MO, Cheyenne Cunningham (Tony) of Eureka MO and Chelby Cunningham (Mike) of St. Louis, MO, great nieces and nephews, Corby Jr., Cyler, Camery, Canyon, Cerrigan, Camile, Chesney and one uncle, Donald Hornung of Keokuk and Tina’s son, Zeb Smeltser (Dusty) and his daughter, Saige of Canton, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Corby Todd and his grandparents.

There will be no services per his wishes. His ashes will be spread in Joshua Tree State Park, CA.

     A Celebration of Life will be held in Keokuk at a later date at the Keokuk Labor Temple.  

     A memorial has been established for his children’s education in his memory.
