Conservation group holds horseback ride, fishing tourney

LEE COUNTY - The Lee County Conservation Dept. is holding a couple final summer events for area outdoor enthusiasts.

A fishing tournament will be held at Pollmiller Park just east of West Point on Saturday, Aug. 17. Registration begins at 8 a.m. while fishing is from 9 a.m to 11 a.m. followed by lunch and prizes.

There will be prizes, food for the whole family, and trophies for the biggest fish in age categories from three to sixteen. The event is co-sponsored by the Queisner family, Lee County Pheasants Forever, and Great River Quail Forever.

The LCCD is also holding a horseback ride through Shimek Forest the following Saturday, Aug. 24 beginning at 2 p.m. A Lee County naturalist and the Westercamp family will host the event.

No experience is needed and pre-registration is required at www.mycountyparks.com by Wed., Aug., 21. Space is limited to 12 riders. The cost is $39 per person and riders must be over seven years of age and under 250 pounds. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and no double riders are allowed. Refunds will only be issued if LCCD cancels the event.
