FORT MADISON - Fort Madison Community Hospital (FMCH) will host the next session in their monthly community health education series on Tuesday, August 27, 2019. The date of this session has changed – previously scheduled for August 13, 2019.
This session entitled “Weight & Hormones-How do my hormones affect my weight, and how does my weight affect my hormones?” will take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at FMCH in the Business Center Conference Rooms.
Dr. Debra Ravasia, Obstetrician/Gynecologist, will discuss the connection between your weight and the hormones your body produces.
Hormones are the most powerful chemical messengers in the body, and have a big influence on weight loss and overall well-being. In addition to blood sugar control and insulin balance, hormones control metabolism and therefore are intricately connected to the amount of fat you gain or lose.
Dr. Ravasia is a Board Certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist as well as, Urogynecology (Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery). She joined the FMCH Women’s Center team in July of this year. Dr. Ravasia trained in Canada, attending medical school at the University of Saskatchewan nearby the farm where she grew up. She completed her residency in Obstetrics/Gynecology at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary.
“I love women’s health care. “Caring for the caregivers” at all stages of life and in a variety of settings gives me great satisfaction.Peeling back the layers of various female problems and getting to the root of the problems, and helping resolve the various problems that affect us as females is what I love to do. My goal isn’t to be a good doctor. My goal is to be an excellent doctor,” she expressed.
This educational session is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. For more information call, 319-376-2244.
