Kahoka man charged with vehicular homicide in Faulkners' deaths

LEE COUNTY - A Kahoka man is in Lee County Jail on two counts of vehicular homicide in connection with a June 9 accident that claimed the lives of a Farmington father and son.

Clark County. Mo. sheriff's deputies arrested Robert LeRoy Boyd, 28, of Kahoka over the weekend on Lee County and Iowa State Patrol warrants and Boyd was transferred to Lee County Jail on Monday where he is being held on a $100,500 cash only bond.

Boyd is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide - operating while intoxicated, one count of OWI, and one count of failure to maintain control.

"They arrested him on our warrants over the weekend and held him," Weber said. "He waived extradition and we went down and picked him up."

According to Iowa State Patrol reports, at about 1:17 a.m. on the morning of June 9, a 2000 Ford pickup driven by the 28-year-old failed to negotiate a curve in the road on Highway 2 at 140th Avenue.

Investigators believe that Boyd overcorrected, crossed the center line and struck a 2005 GMC Yukon driven by Laverne Mark Faulkner, 63 of Farmington nearly head-on.

Faulkner, and a passenger in the vehicle, Michael Paul Faulkner, 39, also of Farmington, were transported to area hospitals by Lee County EMS where they were pronounced dead. Boyd was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics by Lee County EMS.

An OWI-related vehicular homicide offense in Iowa is a class B felony. Each conviction carries up to 25 years in prison and a six-year license revocation. Convicted motorists must also complete a drinking-and-driving course and may have to complete a substance abuse treatment program.
