HTC girls go 4-2 at Bondurant-Farrar

BONDURANT - The Holy Trinity Crusaders won four of six matches at Saturday's Bondurant-Farrar tourney with one of the losses coming to Class 4As 7th-ranked Waverly-Shell Rock.

The Crusader's, ranked 6th in Class 1A, went 3-0 in the morning's pool play with wins over Pella Christian, Boone and Ames, HTC then went 1-2 in the afternoon's Gold Bracket beating Carroll 21-15, 21-16 in the final match, after falling to W-SR 21-12, 21-15 and North Polk 17-21, 21-15, 10-15.

Sophomore Kassi Randolph went 55-56 serving on the day with four aces to lead the Crusaders from the line. Junior Claire Pothitakis was 43-47 with five aces and freshman Brooke Mueller went 22-23 with six aces on the day. Junior Taylor Crabtree also had four aces.

Defensively, Crabtree had 75 digs from the back row, while junior Maria Rauenbuehler had 57. Junior Bailey Hellweg and Randolph had 39 and 38 digs respectively.

At the net, Pothitakis led all Crusaders with 99 attacks on 123 attempts with 49 kills, right at 50% efficiency. Randolph had 15 kills on 55 attacks and junior Katie Denning had 14 kills on 37-46 hitting. Mueller had 13 kills.

Randolph and Bailey anchored the passing game with 49 and 46 assists and senior Avery Hopper led the team in blocks with 11. Randolph chipped in with 10.

The Crusaders are off through the week of the Tri-State Rodeo and will picke things up again on Sept. 12 with a trip to New London.
