Posted

LEE COUNTY - In coordination with Emergency Manager David Drummond of Van Buren County and Stephen Cirinna, Lee County Emergency Coordinator, Milestones Area Agency on Aging will be providing weather radios and natural disaster preparedness materials. These items, along with safety and disaster preparedness guidance, will be available at no cost to individuals and/or families 60 and over, or dependent adults. They were purchased for Lee and Van Buren County seniors through a federal Disaster Assistance grant administered through the State of Iowa in response to the July 19, 2018 EF-1 tornado.

Disbursements will take place at:

Keokuk Heritage Center (508 Main St., Keokuk): Wed. Sept 18th, 10:30 – 11:30 and 12:30 – 1:30pm
Ft Madison Newberry Center (728 Ave. G, Ft Madison): Thursday Sept. 19th, 10:30 – 11:30 and 12:30 – 1:30pm

City officials will be on hand to assist in radio set up.

Qualifying individuals will need to provide their name, address, phone number, and date of birth to receive the items. No sensitive information will be requested. In addition to gaining valuable information about how to best prepare for severe weather and disaster situations, participants will also be able to learn more about the many services available through Milestones Area Agency on Aging.

Milestones also has very limited funds to provide financial assistance for a single individual or family that experienced damage from the tornado on July 19, 2018. An application for consideration will be available during the disbursal and is required to qualify.

This Disaster and Relief Grant and weather radio disbursement would not have been possible without the help of Stephen Cirinna, David Drummond, Mark Bousselot (Keokuk Public Works Director), Cole O’Donnell (Keokuk City Administrator), David Hinton (Keokuk Chief of Police), Jay Whitaker (Keokuk Assistant Chief of Police), the Fort Madison Police and Fire Departments, and the Van Buren Police and Fire Departments.
