City sets fall clean up, hydrant flushing

FORT MADISON - The City of Fort Madison will be conducting City Wide Fall Clean Up October 10-12. Fort Madison residents may bring their refuse to the central location at the City lot at 15th Street & Avenue I between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Oct 10 & Oct 11) and 8:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Oct 12). Residents must provide a valid form of identification and City Water Bill in order to place refuse items in dumpsters. There are many residents within the City of Fort Madison who cannot bring or do not have the capability to bring their items to the central location site at 15thStreet & Avenue I during City Wide Fall Clean Up. If you are interested in being a Good Samaritan by helping these folks out please call City Hall at (319) 372-7700 x 201 and leave your name and phone number so that we may call upon you to assist those in need.

City staff has also announced semi annual hydrant flushing take place on Monday, September 23, 2019 beginning at 7:00 a.m. The hydrant flushing will continue through Friday, September 27, 2019 at 3:00 p.m..

Motorists are advised to use caution when they encounter water department crews flushing hydrants. Customers may experience discoloration of the water and reduced pressure. Conditions should return to normal in a short period.
